How do you incorportate the 2/3 curriculum of structures and cartooning into one 2D project in Ms. Dianne class ? Well … first you hire us and then you do the following:
Step One – The Background!
First we draw a background illustration of a working ski hill, with the ski lift poles ( with perspective) as well as the elevated 3D chalet. Add a little mountain perspective …plus some colour and… TA DA! A great looking Winter Scene.
Part 2- Cartooning!
After a brief lesson about how to create a cartoon face/ body … the kids in the class were instructed to reproduce the same illustration but only smaller! Why? The reason for the small reproduction is to allow the skiing character to actually move on the hill. By hot gluing one of two magnets onto the back and placing the other magnet behind the mountain illustration , the students are able to move the “attracting” magnets on the back and moving the character on the front…. HOT DOG! Perspective, science, cartooning and good old fun in one interactive project!
